Ever find that sweet spot, when you are creating and it feels effortless? Doesn’t matter what you are creating, cooking a meal, painting, dancing, making music, writing…..it feels as though you have stepped into a space of timeless flow.
When I hit those sweet spots of time in the studio, whether I am writing, painting or holding ceremony with the guides, it doesn’t matter what is coming through me, I don’t judge it, I am just one with the moment of expression and it feels amazing.
Then, there are the times when I just can’t get out of my own way. Everything I write feels clunky, painting is uncomfortable and ceremony, I tend to avoid it when I am in this state.
Creativity can be like the ocean, it ebbs and flows. When it flows, we love it and we're in love. It feels like abundance and it’s juicy. But when it ebbs, we go into the dark, the flow has stopped and it will never return. It is the end of the world–This may be a bit dramatic, but there is a reason for the ebb and it doesn’t mean you are wrong. Maybe you can use it as an invitation into the shadow!
We may think, “I am wasting my time and time is money you know!”
But, what if that is only the belief that came from the world? A belief that limits us, wrapped in lack that holds on to keep us accountable to the "machine"–the wheel of productivity that turns the world, and if you are not taking your turn, being productive– you’re out and you may starve or worse?
Lets break that wheel! shall we?
Here is a prompt that you can sit with, write or paint from, create a ceremony with or discuss with a friend….
Let’s drop together into a memory of the last time you lost yourself in something—painting, dancing, writing, cooking, even having a deep conversation—where time seemed to slip away and everything felt effortless.
What were the exact conditions that allowed you to drop into that flow? What did it feel like in your body, what does it feel like now as you recall the memory?
What inner beliefs or expectations fell away? Or if this works better: What beliefs or expectations keep you from creating and creating in the abundant flow?
Jot down the sensory details (sights, sounds, emotions) and any insights that surfaced about what “flow” really asks of you.
This is simply information you are gathering about yourself and how you operate. Let’s drop into curiosity and step away from judgement. We get enough of that! Let’s cultivate grace, kindness and love and just take a peak at what keeps you from creating from the flow.
I’ve been exploring the paradox in my beliefs as I “try” to stay in the flow. When I feel like I am grasping, resisting or pushing- I am hindering the flow instead of being in it. My unconscious belief took over and I feel it in the truth of my body, it is exhausting and it’s all illusion!
The flow is abundance. It is energy. It is a state of being and when you get there–it’s undeniable in how it feels in the mind and body.
It has taken me a bit of time and a whole lot of practice to find my own rhythm–it is not aligned to anyone, anything, any entity outside of me. It is mine and mine alone. There are no rules, no boxes and no limits.
It took me unplugging for a while and feeling all the things, to be able to dispel the myth.
When I let go and found the flow, the idea for A Dreaming Orchard emerged. I began to see the metaphorical orchard contained in my own writing. A place that I can move at my own pace, is loving, nurturing and healing.
In my orchard, I am tending trees of creative abundance, each in its own stage of growth, flowering, fruiting and ripening. Tending to the Orchard is tending to my own creative nature and really listening to my knowing of what is ripe for the picking and sharing; what is blooming and that which needs more time to ripen.
The Orchard is almost ready for visitors, I will be releasing some posts that will present an invitation to join me in this creative space, where you will be allowed to create at your own speed, nurture and tend to the space of your own creativity and remove the obstacles that do not serve your highest value.
I am excited to be placing the finishing touches on the delivery of this medicine. The intricacies of which require patience, the breath and allowing the flow.
With love and Cosmic Dreaming,
Deborah
